Mindfulness for Adults and in the Workplace
There are reasons why top companies, like Google, Aetna, Apple, Nike and more are investing in their employees and offering mindfulness in the workplace. Why they are offering meditation programs to their employees? Here are a few of the reasons Aetna discovered after implementing their mindfulness employee program:
A highly stressed employee, when compared to their less-stressed peers, can cost their company an extra $2,000 per year in healthcare.
Health care costs at, for example, Aetna -- which at one time total more than $90 million a year -- are going down now that the company offers mindfulness programs.
In 2012, as mindfulness programs ramped up at Aetna, health care costs fell a total of 7 percent. (That equals $6.3 million going straight to the bottom line, partly attributed to mindfulness training.)
Aetna calculated that productivity gains alone were about $3,000 per employee, equaling an eleven-to-one return on investment.
[the above statistics are cited by the writer & journalist David Gelles in his book on aetna and mindfulness, titled, Mindful Work]
